Lisbon, Portugal



Lisbon is the capital of Portugal.
The Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio) is the most important square of Lisbon. It was built where the royal palace was located before it was destroyed by the great earthquake of 1755.
Lisbon Cathedral, is the oldest and most important church in the city. Built in the twelfth century and is predominantly Romanesque style. His full name is Santa Maria Maior. During its history the cathedral has been restored several times and that is, though it has survived in an exemplary manner, has suffered several natural disasters. The great earthquake of 1755 destroyed many parts of the church.
The Vasco da Gama bridge is the longest bridge in Europe. It has 17.2 kilometers long and was built for the Universal Exhibition of 1998. The length of the bridge on cloudy days makes it is impossible to see the other side. Opened in 1998 is named after Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese navigator important. Commemorates the 500th anniversary of his arrival in India in 1498.
The Lisbon Oceanarium is the second largest aquarium in Europe, behind the L'Oceanographic in Valencia. In the wild coexist over 15,000 living more than 450 different species.The Oceanarium building has two floors and everything revolves around a large central aquarium.
